This portrait of Maida Castelhun Darnton (1872-1940, granddaughter of Paulus Roetter) was painted by Swedish-American artist Henning Ryden (1869-1939).  Darnton was a suffragist, author, dramatic critic, and lecturer, and her husband, Charles Darnton, was a theatre critic and 20th Century Fox screenwriter (and granduncle of John Darnton who wrote Neanderthal and The Darwin Conspiracy).  The painting will be reproduced to matte paper and put in a black frame of approximately 21" by 27".  My wife is so enamored by this painting that she refers to Maida as the queen of our living room.
